Modern intelligence. Established hardware.
Revenant Robotics integrates modern AI with legacy robotic hardware. ROBIE Sr. emphasizes visual and environmental perception; RSAP emphasizes articulated expression and body awareness. Both preserve their original character while adding contextual conversation, persistent memory, and operator-controlled interaction.
Perception meets conversation
1986 RadioShack · Raspberry Pi 5
A wheeled robot augmented with camera-based observation, natural conversation, memory, and local interaction.
Conversation with body language
RoboSapien X · Raspberry Pi 4 + Pico
An articulated robot whose conversations can be accompanied by gestures, walking, and expressive motion.
Perception meets conversation
Re-engineered around Raspberry Pi 5 computing, camera perception, and conversational AI, ROBIE can inspect an object or describe a scene, discuss what he observes, and draw on remembered conversational context. He uses the OpenAI API for conversational responses alongside presence sensing, environmental reports, local speech output, and expressive eye and mouth LEDs.
| Capability | What it contributes |
|---|---|
| Visual inspection | Camera-based scene and object descriptions, still-image and video functions. |
| Context and memory | Retained conversational information and owner preferences help inform subsequent replies. |
| Presence and status | Passive presence sensing supports wake from robot sleep and watch functions; environmental and system reports add context. |
| Movement and expression | Wheeled motion and LED expression operate through established local controls. |
| Interaction reliability | Refined conversational turn-taking and repeated-answer handling, with bounded diagnostics to investigate missed or delayed replies. |
| iPhone Remote | Manual movement, camera access, microphone audio monitoring, and exact operator-supplied speech. Recent completed Remote speech can provide temporary conversational context and be identified as coming from the operator through Remote, without automatically becoming a saved memory. |
Conversation with body language
RSAP is an articulated RoboSapien X augmented with Raspberry Pi 4 computing, a Pico infrared bridge, and body-motion sensing. RSAP uses xAI’s Grok for conversation, with a candid personality and dry humour. Native gestures can accompany speech; the original platform supplies walking, arm movements, poses, and performance routines.
| Capability | What it contributes |
|---|---|
| Multilingual dialogue | Public configuration supports English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Italian. |
| Persistent recall | Earlier conversations can be recalled by topic or time. More selective retrieval limits unrelated stored facts and reports in the current exchange; ordinary conversation and broader memory relevance remain under evaluation. |
| Approved corrections | An authorized owner can approve a factual correction, retrieve it, and later withdraw it. |
| Physical expression | Walking, gestures, poses, and performance routines complement conversation. |
| Control | Explicit movement requests are validated locally before action admission. Recognized STOP commands follow local control routing; speech transcription still depends on online services. |
| Continuity | A completed, owner-authorized Calendar readout can seed bounded, temporary private context for relevant follow-up discussion. Unrelated subjects return to ordinary conversation handling. |
| Efficiency | Cache-aware request construction keeps reusable prompt content stable. Billed-cost accounting and application-level monthly budget controls support usage management; measured monthly savings are not yet established. |
| Runtime reliability | Transient health status is stored in private RAM and recreated at startup, while financial records retain durable persistent writes. |
| iPhone Remote | Manual motion, gestures, performances, and exact spoken text under explicit Remote ownership. |
Bounded cognitive autonomy
Selected context-informed choices are possible within defined operating rules. Memory changes and physical actions remain governed by established controls.
Remembering and adapting are different.
Memory retains information from eligible interactions. Adaptation uses that information to influence a later response. Both robots support persistent conversational context and bounded cognitive guidance with controls for owner-directed preferences and corrections.
A temporary request for a shorter answer should remain distinct from a lasting preference. A withdrawn preference should stop influencing later replies. An approved correction authorizes storage; it is not independent proof that the statement is true.
Evidence before claims
Recorded live tests have demonstrated ROBIE’s preference-withdrawal persistence and RSAP’s approved-correction workflow. Subsequent owner tests and engineering checks are summarized in the dated updates below. Broader evidence that conversational feedback produces useful, lasting improvement remains under evaluation, alongside turn-taking, expression, relevance, and operator-control transitions.
Together, ROBIE and RSAP provide a physical setting for demonstrations of conversation, memory, perception, and embodied AI.
Interaction, diagnostics and recovery
Subsequent owner tests covered ordinary speech and camera use, repeated-answer handling, and Remote camera/audio operation with return to normal conversation. Conversational timing refinements strengthen the existing interaction model rather than add a new capability.
Bounded diagnostic retention was verified across two boots. The owner reported shutdown without Wi-Fi working on 24 October. Update procedures include source-integrity checks, startup verification and matched rollback packages checked against the preceding build.
Local control and operational continuity
Installed revisions add local validation of explicit physical-action requests, local routing after STOP recognition, temporary private Calendar follow-up context and more selective conversational context. Owner checks include STOP behavior and a Calendar follow-up; these examples do not certify every phrase, acoustic condition or conversational outcome.
Cache-aware requests and billed-cost records support monthly budget controls. October 2026 is monitoring-only; application-level enforcement is configured to begin on 1 November 2026. These controls are not a provider-enforced invoice cap, and no monthly savings figure is established.
Health status now resides in private RAM storage while financial records remain durable. Extended normal-use verification of memory responsiveness, repetition and continuity is still open.
Public overview issued 15 October 2026. The original engineering evidence review covered records through 14 October 2026. The ROBIE update and RSAP revision above extend the platform-specific record through 26 October 2026.
Evidence distinguishes owner-reported device tests from software checks and deployment verification. Capability descriptions do not imply continuous monitoring, complete behavioral acceptance or independently certified physical stopping performance.
